Name: City: Sacred Heart Seminary, Hales Corners, Wisconsin, USA Sent: 09/26 07:44 PM I feel that I have been influenced by John Bradburne's life story as written by John Dove. In 2002 I traveled from Wisconsin to Dublin, trying to discern a vocation. A friend in Ireland helped me arrange to take a retreat at Loyola Hall, near Liverpool. During the 8 day period of prayer, and spiritual guidance with Fr Gerald O'Mahoney, I found a copy of "Vagabond" in the retreat center library. I began reading and in three days had finished the book. I was very moved by John Bradburne's search for his own place in God's plan. I made the decision to somehow find a way to become a priest --- at that time, I was 58 years old. About a month later, I went to Fatima, Portugal. During a 8 day visit filled with prayer to Mary and many rosaries, I decided to write to dioceses in Wisconsin, and I hoped that when I returned to this state that perhaps one of the bishops would consider accepting me as a seminarian. I continued to pray to Mary and with a lot of trust and hope in my heart, I returned home. Almost immediately, I was contacted. As I write this message, I have been studying at the Sacred Heart School of Theology for 2 years and am now at the start of my 3rd. I pray to be ordained in 2006 and become a priest for the Diocese of Superior, Northern Wisconsin. I feel that reading about John Bradburne, at the time when I needed help deciding about my own life, gave me the determination to proceed. I continue to pray the rosary faithfully and I sincerly hope that John's example will help others as it helped me. Pray for me as I for thee and merrily we will meet in heaven. Name: City: Southampton, England Sent: 07/05 05:51 AM Its funny that i woke up today feeling so lonely i thought i would die, then i rememberd that in highschool i often felt that way, however we went a lot of the times to Mutemwa just to visit, you know, the CLG or the CYA groups would raise funds and donate to help with the everyday lives of our friends at Mutemwa but the lessen was not the fact that we went just for the day and left feeling good because we gave, but that i realise that their lives had the potential to be more lonely than i can imagine but John created a safe haven for them, where one never feels alone or unloved and only a man close to God would sacrifice so much for his brothers, sounds a whole lot like jesus dosent it? anyway if we look outside ourselves stop being selfishand find peace in God how then can you be lonely? go on lets pray to make John a saint Sent: 06/30 01:53 PM Novena In Urgent Need To The Infant Jesus Of Prague I have personally used this novena myself on more than one occasion it definitley works. Name: City: Harare, Zimbabwe Sent: 09/10 06:36 AM For the first time, I have visited mutemwa for John's 23rd anniversary, despite being a zimbabwean and catholic. I would here about John and Mutemwa but never thought of visiting the site. I am very disappointed, I don't know what I've been missing. On hearing and anouncement in the church about his 23rd annivesary, i promised myself to attend and through God's will, I managed to do so. It was such a powerful and blessing event, an all night prayer and worship on chigoma, I felt like I was in heaven with John. Upon hearing testimonies on John I left Mutemwa with a changed heart. I have since made promises to God and ask for God's guidance. John was one man of a kind and I want to ask the lord to guide me so that at least I am able to assist the needy and the poor. It is very difficult, I can imagine how John could do it, but hey' i think he is my new role model. I then decided to search for a website which contains anything on Jhn and I must say I am very glad to have found this site. If you haven't been to Mutemwa, you do not know what you are missing God bless! Name: City: England. Sent: 08/29 03:28 PM An extraordinary, compassionate, faithful man. They truly restore one's faith in humanity again. However to emulate John Bradburnes example I urge you all not to forget the "lepers" in our midst whom we can lend a hand to everyday. Only in so doing will we experiance the kingdom of God here on earth. John only had his heart to give . Nothing is impossible if you pray and believe.God bless you all Name: City: Liverpool, England Sent: 03/22 12:42 PM I first learned of John shortly after my first visit to Medjugorje in Bosnia Herzegovina in October 1999 which led to my return to the Catholic faith having lapsed twenty five years earlier. Information from different sources about John came to me over a matter of a few days and I knew that God was telling me that this man was to be an important role model for me. I have read 'Strange Vagabond of God' and seen the video 'On Eagle's Wings'. I felt called to visit Buckfast Abbey in January 2001 and know that he had something to do with this. I have since joined the Secular Franciscan Order here in Liverpool and am amazed at the number of times he seems to crop up in my life. His simplicity, honesty, generosity and selflessness are qualities which I can only try to emulate. I can also relate to his need for solitude and prayer to remain close to God. I am praying for his beatification because Zimbabwe desperately needs a spiritual role model like him to bring the helpless and deluded to God. I thank God for his example. Name: City: Kensington. Johannesburg. South Africa Sent: 02/27 12:51 AM Thanks a zillion John for heeding to God's call and for your selfless sacrifices. Since I came to know you through Fr Claudio Rossi SJ, you've always been a great inspiration. You've always answered my prayers. Imitating the pact between St Maximilian Kolbe and St Therese of The Child Jesus, I've decided to pray daily for the course of your beatification and canonisation in return that you pray also for me to attain the fullness of Christ's perfection here on earth. May our most worthy mother, Mary Immaculate, through the Blood of her Son Jesus help seal our pact and make it fruitful for the greater Glory of God and for the Greater good of Souls-AMEN. I was working in Zimbabwe at that time. My wife Anne Marie daughter Sarah and son David several times visted Mutemwa. We could sense the great impact this loving community had as a result of John who had died two years previously. I later became handicapped myself and have counted on John as aspiritual friend who has helped me adjust to a new way of living. Unlike the lepers, I am fortunate to still be able to pursue the same career I had and can manage a full life. I had the great pleasure of accompaning a friend John Reid back to Zimbabwe in 1999, who is treasureer of the John Bradburne Memmorial Society. We visited again Mutemwa twice and I was happy to be remembered by several of the lepers and particularly Colette. I feel spiritualy a citizen of Mutemwa. The links that have developed through sharing of John Bradburne's life by John Dove as author of "The Strange Vagabond of God" on a fourty year friendship with John Bradburne, the continuing ministry by Deacon Kawisi, and the sustained support by Mai Claver to the lepers needs and the collection and distribution of cloths by Tony and Pauline Hutchins today shows the abiding commitment to the lepers at Mutemwa which began with John and was followed right after his martyrdom by Judy Joe a young woman who raised support from the mixed race community before she died in 1981 and by many others across the spectrum of the beautiful Zimbabwe. John is someone we should all follow in a small way to reach out to others and to share what we can to bring esteem and value to lives of others. We are all on the same path and we must see this in moments of tradgedy today as well as times of joy. Thank you John for your witness. We count on your example and support to our efforts. Would you please advise how I could go about getting this. He was truly a wonderful man! Name: City: Johannesburg Sent: 09/03 09:18 AM As somebody who was involved in the Rhodesian conflict, I knew of the wonderful work that John Bradburne did and the dangers which confronted him.Yet he lived the life that Jesus Christ wants of all of us. Complete unselfishness and putting others before self. My one personal wish is for the world to know who really murdered John...was it the Rhodesian Govt.'s Selous Scouts or Mugabe's murderous thugs....I know the truth...does the world know the truth and indeed the truth about the murders of the other missionaries at Mtoko/Mrewa that the world so conveniently forgets about. John may you rest in the arms of the Lord...may you be an inspiration to all who seek God and the ways of Jesus Christ..may the Holy See come to canonise you soon. A longer, more subjective piece has just been published by Christian Order in London. May I suggest that if anyone is interested in reading this report that they contact Christain Order via their website at www.christianorder.com I found the visit to Mutemwa both moving and uplifting, particularly against the backdrop of what is happening in Zimbabwe and I have no doubt that John Bradburne will eventually be cannonised. This was a remarkable life and everyone who is exposed to the Bradburne story seems to be changed in some way. Name: City: Mandeville, LA. USA Sent: 08/17 01:31 AM Thank you for a beautiful site. Since then I found the book Strange Vagabond of God and naturally purchased it. I have, however, only just read it. In a funny way, I feel like John is trying to guide me. There are two many close "co-incidences" - Buckfast abbey, East Devon (Where my Mothers' family comes from - she too has recently converted), Stevenage Herts - so close to Buntingford. I am married and feel called to do something special for God where I am in the world, in fact I have to say that I am beginning to make sense of my faith, perhpas through reading the book and John's intercession. After reading the article, I said a prayer and asked his intercession for my father's condition. After the operation wherein the kidney was removed, the doctor said the tumor was 6-in. big, but it never spread to the nearby organs. After that, I cut the article and decided to surf the net for some information about him. My family visited Mutemwa many times while we resided in Zimbabwe 1980-83. Bradburne has remained a guide for me ever since. I twice revisited Mutemwa in November 1999. I rejoiced to be remembered by both Coletta, the sacristan in John's time and Sara Manatse who told me "here since February 15, 1958" although fourteen years had passed. It was good to see again long time residents Sabina Mate, Simon Kamfudzi "age 92", Wilson Newara "here 55 years", Regina Makumba "here since the 1940s", Abraham Kabishi, Karima a musician, blind Edward "Window", Baba Zuzi and Ruka Dhanegwe. The staff Amai Cleaver and Deacon Cyril Kawisi and the residents from Bradburne's time as well as the more recent arrivals welcome visitors and are a sign of God the Father's love. This for me is is what Bradburne instilled at Mutemwa. We should all be spiritually resident in Mutemwa and share this love generously.
