He lived in Pennsylvania. Do you have family there? Name: Homepage: http://www.local4all.com City: Kittanning, PA : Yuengling Brian, thanks for your posting on Kittanning.com and it's good to hear your comments about Chicago. My most vivid (older) memory of Chicago was from checking out the University of Chicago in 1967 (I enrolled at Clarion U., Clarion, PA). A newer memory is driving the center lane pulling a U-Haul trailer behind my Taurus - in the wee hours of the morning - and having 18-wheelers on both my left and right, one in front, and one right on my tail. While not normally claustrophobic, that was a box I was glad to escape safely. Brian, thanks for the chance to check out Memory Lane! Name: Noorts Nice pictures Name: Iron Maiden Rules! Name: Rick I have lived in NC and GA since 1963 and have been to the area several times since then but not since '91, however I am coming up next week for a wedding in Hudson, Ohio and was thinking about going to Geauga Lake Park and pretent I am Idora. I think the carousel is in a mall somewhere in the Youngstown area that is according to my cousin, however I seem to have read somewhere it is in New York State. What a sad thing, I am 54 years old and I have very vivid memories of Idora, especially the coasters, the french fries, the Fun House the dodge em cars, the caterpiller, the rocket plane, and the tilt a whirl. I remember my first ride on the Wild Cat, my oldest brother took me, I had to muster up the nerve, I can still hear that ominous clicking sound of the cars being pulled up the first tower. I was sooo scared, I remember being able to see for miles because the tower was above the tree line, and then wow we were off. The Jack Rabbit ride seemed to last forever the Wild Cat seemed to be over in 15 seconds. I liken the ride to blowing up a balloon and releasing it and the balloon taking a wild tumbling trajectory until the air was expelled. I cannot remember if I rode again that day or cooled my heels in the Old Mill ride. But what a wonderful place. I remember my Grandfather and Grandmother getting on the scale diesel train and riding throught the park while the whole family (must have been30 of us) sang *Ive been working on the railroad." Great stuff. Name: REMEMBER GROWING UP IN HUBBARD AND GOING TO IDORA EVERY YEAR ON GROTTO DAY. THE WILDCAT WAS LIKE A BLOWN UP BALLOON WITH THE AIR LET OUT, THE JACK RABBIT WAS A RIDE THAT SEEMED TO TAKE FOREVER. THE FUN HOUSE THE FRIES WITH VINEGAR. LAST VISIT WAS PROBABLY IN 1962, STILL THINK THE WILDCAT WAS THE BEST COASTER I EVER RODE. GOOD LUCK AND THANKS FOR SHARING PART OF NE OHIO HERITAGE. Name: City: Carpentersville, Illinois Dear Brian, Thank you so much! Your pictures are so beautiful. The farm house & buildings are so loved by Scott and Joan, and us. You have caught the beauty of it. Love, Charmaine Name: City: Austintown OH I remember going to Idora park as a very small child, and later as a teen in the 80's. Just before the park closed we would go to the Spring Fling's--local cover bands played in the ball room. I can remember walking into the ball room and "feeling" was used to be. My parents met there roller skating in the 40's. I love to hear the stories of Idora, Mill Creek Park and how great it was for my parents to grow up in Youngstown. Can you imagine walking from Cohassat to the Uptown now? How sad it must have been for the workers to walk out of the park the last day it was open, knowing that it was closing. If only the remains could talk. I bet all of that beautiful stonework could tell some tales! Name: City: Deland What tremendous pictures of the old dance pavillion and the bandstand at Idora park!
