Does any one have any information on the Days that settled in southern West Virginia. I think they were sheep herders.

Hi, I'm Jim O'Dea from New Zealand. I'm just a beginner at all this. I am reading the O'Dea Story of a Rebel Clan and learning about Dysert Castle. I would like to make contact with some other O'Deas.

This message is to thank Jim O Dea and the entire O Dea...O'Day...clan. My husband Robert and I were fortunate to visit Ireland for the first time in our lives. Not only was it our first clan gathering but were we able to share our trip with the "O'Day Yanks". i.e. my cousin Patrick and his wife Joan and their brother...sisters...wives...children...Mother. I know that Pat and Joan have been involved in our family roots for many years. How fortunate we were to share this experience with all of them. Pat and Joan gave us much guidance along the way. Jim O Dea we thank you for a rich...historical...experience. Your knowledge...personality...and warmth made this journey to our roots so meaningful and well represented. It was beyond our expectations and we are looking forward to 2008. We also thank all the wonderful members that we met during our trip.

Ive heard through family that our ancestrial home is Galway and during a visit by a friend a saucer/plate was found in Galway in a local shop with our family name and coat of arms. This has prompted my search for ancestrial lineage.

I know very little about my O'Day relatives. My grandfathers' family was from the Chicago area and he died in 1966 in his mid 70's. He served in the U.S. Army during WW1. James married Rose Krantz and they had one child, my father, James J. O'Day. James J. was born in 1921 in Los Angeles and died in Whittier, California in 1972. James J. served in the Army Air Corps during WW2 and was a policeman in Los Angeles for over 25 years. I would be very inter5ested in learning more about the occasional O'Dea reunions.

What are the regulations for becoming clan chieftan? Is there any O'Dea who can trace their liniage back more than 5 generations? Who are the oldest known O'Dea family? Answers on a postcard too... No, actually could you please email me... Thanks.
Note by the Moderator: The Constitution of the Dysert O'Dea Clan Association provides for a Chieftain (Taoiseach) and Chieftain Elect (Tánaiste), and for all officers to be "elected at each Clan Gathering by members who are present and fully paid-up." Sue Poole was installed as Chieftain at Dysert O'Dea Castle on July 9, 2005, and Clan Association members elected John B. O'Day III as Tánaiste at the triennial elections on July 11. The next elections will be held at the Clan Gathering of 2008.

I live in the US thanks to my great great grandfather ossey o'day. With the recent passing of my great grandmother, minnie lee day, this part of the family is at a roadblock. seems the hall of records in ireland burned from what she said that contained information on direct ancestoral background. we know he migrated to the US in the late 1800's (probably because of the potato famine) but not sure. anyone with information please help, we would like know our history better. I am the first in our corner of the family to find this site and have passed it on to other uncles and cousins in north carolina, usa and here in florida.
