My great-uncle Sgt Peter Gosnold flew in the same crew as F/O Eisberg. They were shot down on 21.11.44 over Moers, Germany. I am trying to trace any relatives or friends of F/O Eisberg who survived as a POW. Peter lost his life in the incident. After the war F/O Eisberg kindly wrote to Peter's family but the correspondence has been lost.

Thank you so much for this sight. My grandfather was Jack Richard Foster, and was a POW for eighteen months. Recently, I have been encouraged to research more of his story and what everyone went throught. He was an amazing man when he was alive - one of the best men that I know, but niavely never asked him about his time as a POW - I guess I was scared! Reading his memories is an incredible thing - and then finding this sight was something like a miracle. Thank you for all your work in this sight - I am blessed to have found it, and can not wait to filter through it all. I am 23 years old, and see that this history is more important to learn and understand than everyday. Many thanks to everyone who contributes to this sight - I am in awe of bravery and survival.

I was a bombardier, 401st Squadron, 91st Group, 8th Air Force, shot down 12/5/43 near Duren. Crash landed in a beet field, captured 5 days later with 2 others from my crew near Aachen. Interrogated in Frankfurt, then shipped to Stalag Luft 1. Like Lt. Kutsow, who I don't believe I ever met, I'm Jewish and was also seperated from my crew and the other Pows and sent to the segregated barracks in the North Compound. My memories of what transpired are somewhat different than Lt. Kutsow's. Perhaps one day we can exchange reminiscences.

Hello, I came across your wonderful site while trying to find the name of a newsletter my father used to receive. I thought is was called "In Flight" and was about P.O.W.'s in the AirCorp. My precious father passed away on February 25th, 2004. He was 88. I want to write his "last flight" for the newsletter but so far I've been unable to find the newsletter. Any help would be appreciated. My father was a pilot of a B-17 and was shot down on his 50th (supposed to be his last) mission and wound up in Barth Germany at Stalag 1 for 14 months. He left a lot of information so I might have some information for you regarding room mates etc. Thank you so much Emily W. Rose 707-763-9825

My father passed away this year but not before I showed him this site. He was astounded and remembered Lennie Lozo very well. He was shot-down Jan 21/22 1944. A rear gunner, his Halifax bomber exploded just as he got to the hatch, next thing he remembered was coming to in a ploughed field. He kept his prisoner of war log and I'll send upload whatever info I can..He was a very fun, happy guy and before he died I realized it was because the war taught him to appreciate life. VJ Lehman

UNFORTUNATELY, OR MAYBE UNDERSTANDABLY, DAD NEVER SPOKE IN DETAIL OF HIS DAYS AS A POW, AND AS, AT THAT TIME, WE WERE TOO INVOLVED IN OUR OWN LIVES, MY BROTHER RICHARD AND MYSELF NEVER REALLY QUESTIONED HIM IN DEPTH ABOUT IT. I'D LOVE TO HEAR FROM ANYONE WHO NEW DAD AND HAS ANY MEMORIES OF THAT TIME TO SHARE. DAD PASSED AWAY IN 1978 AND WE REGRET NEVER HAVING SHARED HIS EXPERIENCES WITH HIM. BRONWYN & RICHARD EVANS

Recently while moving my mother into assisted living,(my dad died in 1983) my siblings and I began cleaning out her house. I came across the book, Behind Barbed Wire, by Morris J. Roy. I was fascinated by the book and even more shocked to see my dad's name in the listing under North Compound II (Pennsylvania, Sullivan,J.M.Lt;B;B-17, 4418 Lancaster Ave, Philadelphia)After a google search for MorrisJ.Roy, I stumbled onto your web site. I must say it is impressive. My siblings and I grew up as military "brats" as our dad went back into the Air Force sometime around 1947. We were more aware of his life in the POW camp because of his career, yet he seldom spoke of his WWII experiences. We do have a log of his captivity and it is something I love reading whenever I can. A highlight of the log is his description of his last mission. I read with interest your father's description of his last mission. I am impressed with the amount of information you uncovered about his crew on the 29th mission. My brother recently made contact with a former crewman on my dad's ill-fated B-17 and relayed the conversation to me about a year ago of the last mission. With time, I hope to research more of the experiences of "All the Fine Young Men," including my father. One thing of curiosity, I failed to see J.M.Sullivan's name in the listings by barracks. I can only assume that the list is only partly accurate given the size of the population of POW's and the movement within the camp of many of them. If this message is read by anyone who may know the location of his barracks or room, please let me know. Gene Sullivan

His skill in dealing with our German captors and later the Russians did much to improve conditions and get us out of there and home! I met him at an Eighth Air Force meeting in Las Vegas, where he was a featured speaker. When he learned that I was a fellow kriegie, he spent fifteen minutes recalling with me what we went through. I'm rereading his two books and am more impressed with him as a leader than ever. Regards, Bruce Bockstanz
