I still have Ron's bracelet that I wore through high school and college. I moved from Odessa right after graduating and was working in DeSoto TX. I met a police officer there who was a Marine and he had a bracelet on.. I asked him who he had and it was Ron's..I couldn't believe it.. I went to a different grade school but I became aquainted with him through mutual friends. Ron was the type of person that everyone would want to be. Those that remember growing up in the 50's and 60's remember the television programs of our day that were targeted to adolescents. Ron was many of those characters. He was Rusty of "Rin Tin Tin," Bobby Diamond in "Fury" and/or Timmy in Lassie. He was that type of person. Ron had his head in the clouds and he achieved that level by becoming a Marine Corp pilot after graduation from Texas A&M. He married a high school classmate of mine, Jana Hamilton and they had a daughter together. It has been 30 years since the event. It seems like yesterday. I was a young Cpl in those days providing support to all of our brave pilots who where flying north. AAlthough I never personaly met either I'd always see the pilots in the chow hall or in the hootches, "SEAhuts", when I'd make my rounds to check on the generators, lighting, or shower units.
