Sent: 03/12 08:04 PM Dear Peter Dolman, Thanks for your message in our Guestbook. I will draw your message to the attention of Charles Springett, Blaisdon President, as I am sure he will want to reply to your offer. He and Terry O'Neill have many pictures I believe. Trust you have checked the Events section of this Website, which lists the dates for the two reunions to take place this year at Easter and August Bank Holiday periods. Best wishes. John Ward, Vice President, Salesian Past Pupils' Federation (GB) Name: Sent: 03/12 06:29 PM Wishing to contact past pupils and staff of Blaisdon 1965-68. I also have (and would like to assemble for others) slides and pictures of Blaisdon and area -- most taken in mid-80s. Sent: 02/14 07:27 PM Dear Friends Fr Sean Murray has sent the following: ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Michael 'Hector' O'Shea, a past pupil of Blaisdon, died on Friday, 11th February. Hector was on the maintenance staff at Blaisdon for a number of years prior to its closure in 1993. He suffered a stroke last year and spent the last months semi-conscious in hospital. His funeral is in Bodmin, Cornwall, next Friday (18th February). I hope to be there with a few of the old boys. Hector was a valued member of staff and was a great help to me personally. May he rest in peace. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ -- Fr Patrick Sherlock SDB (GBR Provincial Secretary) Name: Homepage: http://www.dnbosco.co.uk/pp City: Uxbridge, Middx Sent: 02/08 04:41 PM Dear Readers, Excellent results speak for themselves. Success of Salesian Tsunami Appeal Dear Friends The Salesian Tsunami Appeal has produced over £1.5M of support for the victims. The message below appears on the web site of the Salesian Generalate in Rome: http://www.sdb.org/ ANS Rome: 27 January 2005) - As the figures rise, so far 2,500,000 euro have been sent to those affected by the tsunami. The Salesian Family was among the first to be mobilised to send help to Sri Lanka, to southern India, to Thailand and Indonesia, areas where the Salesian Congregation of Don Bosco have 92 works. Funds have been collected from all kinds of Salesian centres: oratories, youth centres, parishes, vocational training centres, schools, Mission Offices and also through the Don Bosco Network. Work groups with volunteers from Italy and Belgium are already coordinating 50 reconstruction projects with local partners. In the meeting of Don Bosco Network (the network of Mission Offices and Salesian NGO) held last week, the Councillor for the Missions, Fr Francis Alencherry, arranged for an increase in the number of medium and long term projects at a cost of 10,000,000 euro. The amount sent from our province, through Provincial House, now amounts to £25,311.60p, including gift aid. Keep visiting the Generalate web site for the latest updates. >> Fr Patrick Sherlock SDB (GBR Provincial Secretary) Name: Homepage: http://www.donbosco.co.uk/pp City: Uxbridge, Middx Sent: 01/15 12:42 PM FRANK BAYLIS RIP - FUNERAL ARRANGEMNTS --------------- The Funeral Service will take place at The United Reform Church (Chapel)in Little Dean at 1115 on Thursday 20JAN2005. Please pray for the Repose of the Soul of this fine man who lived in the cottage at St. Michaels, where we hold our Annual Reunion Masses. Our heartfelt condolences are offered to his wife, Dorothy, and the family and friends of Frank. Please keep them all in your prayers at this difficult time. Frank, as a member of the Blaisdon Village Council, was the man who spoke up at our last reunion, so supportively for the continuance of our get togethers at Blaisdon. Details of the funeral arrangements will be added as soon as we know them, when it is hoped that many Past Pupils will attend. MAY HE REST IN PEACE Name: Homepage: http://www.donbosco.co.uk/pp City: Ubridge, Middx, UK Sent: 01/12 09:56 PM Dear Readers, Info about the Salesian work and gratitude for your help, after the tragic tsunami Below: DBN: close on a million dollars distributed in aid BONN: 12th January 2005 -- In a press release issued today from Bonn, the Don Bosco Network announced that it has distributed Euro 737,000, close on a million US dollars worth of aid to areas affected by the Asian Tsunami. These funds have been distributed to assist the local response by the 93 Salesian communities in those areas. The response of Salesians who are managing the relief at the local level has clearly been one of gratitude. "It is heartening to see how many people, from all corners of the world, provide their voluntary help in this tragic circumstance", underlined Fr James Theophilus, SDB Provincial of Tiruchy which covers the badly affected areas of Tamil Nadu. There are 12 Salesian communities our of 23 in the Province sheltering, between them some 10,000 survivors. "We must start a process of economic and social rehabilitation to give a meaning to the future of these people, and we must therefore set up a process of rehabilitation to daily life." Similar thoughts come from Thailand. "The re-opening of schools has been a means of getting back to normality", says Fr John Lissandrin, Provincial Secretary of the Thai Salesian Province, "However many students need to be psychologically supported in order to face the new reality of their country and family". The situation has differed in Indonesia, where the control of the Government over affected areas is stronger, and where access is by invitation only. The Salesians actually do not have communities in the affected areas. But they have been receiving aid and distributing it through the Episcopal Conference and to Caritas which has access via the dioceses to the disaster area. The first two of DBN's stated aims for aid distribution are now largely fulfilled, namely the provision of immediate sustenance and shelter. The project now looks to the remaining three aims, reconstruction, tools and work needs, long-term support for children. _____________________ Name: Homepage: http://www.donbosco.co.uk/pp City: Uxbridge Sent: 01/09 04:02 PM TSUNAMI DISASTER SUPPORT THROUGH SALESIAN CHANNELS Dear Readers, I attach below an Email I received from Father Patrick Sherlock SDB, Provincial Secretary. Whilst I imagine many of you will have already given generously to this disater appeal through various channels or the DEC (Disaster Emergency Committee), I am sure you will want to know of this opportunity to channel further help through the Salesians who are very prominent on the ground in the disaster area. For UK Readers, if you make the link to the site mentioned in Father Pat's item below you will find how to do this and get a feel for the tremendous work our Salesain Family are doing and will continue to do to ameliorate the distress to those still suffering. For Readers outside the UK I feel fairly sure that asimilar opportunity will be possible through the Salesian Provincial office in your country. John Ward, Vice President, Salesian Past Pupils' Federation ----------------------------------------------------------(B) Dear Friends, Several people have asked for further details about making donations to help the Tsunami victims through Salesian channels. I have put a couple of pages on our Province web site to try to make things clearer. Go to http://www.salesians.org.uk and click the red 'Tsunami Crisis' box. If you need any further information, please contact Fr Williams or Paulene Whyte at the Provincial Office by email or phone (see number below). -- Fr Patrick Sherlock SDB (GBR Provincial Secretary) Salesian House, 266 Wellington Road North, STOCKPORT SK4 2QR Tel: (0161) 431 6633 Web: http://www.salesians.org.uk Name: City: Ocala Sent: 12/30 09:24 PM Happy New Year to all past and present Salesians and may each of you be happy and find peace in the year 2005.
