Thanks for making the diary available. I have recently discovered it and have enjoyed it very much. I believe that John is my great, great, great grandfather. My grandmother was Elizabeth Aurelia Osborne who's grandfather was William Stancil Osborne, one of John's sons.

Harold: I really enjoyed reading this. I wish I had read it be- fore my trip up to Salt Lake. I am wondering if the William McCoy he kept on mentioning in his diary was the father of my 2nd great-grandmother Rachel McCoy Helms? Also I wonder which William Helms he was referr ing to? I SINCERELY hope that more copies of his diaries will be found! THANKS EVER SO MUCH FOR doing all the work it too to put this on the web. Barbara

I would like to thank you for posting this. My wife does have a photo copy of the original transcripts but when others ask for it I have to tell them to write to the Haritage room in Union Co.,NC. My wife(Libby) has ties to two families mentioned, McCrory and Ritch families. This has helped to file some of the gaps in the tree and point use in a new direction. Thanks for posting this.

Wonderful site. I very much appreciate the effort that has gone into building and maintaining it. I'm a descendant of John Radford (immigrant from England ca 1790?) who married Virginia Ausborn/Osborn. Still looking for proof of this marriage after 35 years research. I'd hoped to find some mention of it here.

Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful Diary with us. I am a descendent of Daniel Winchester, who is mentioned in the early edition. I've found so many Winchester associated families in John's writings. I'm sure, John never realized how his writing down his thoughts, would have so much impact on so many people, 200 years later.

Wonderful reding. I love seeing the actual way they talked (pronounced) words in that area. This helps many understand the way names became spelled other ways....Many of these people are ancestors of mine...Helms, Presley, Laney, Keziah/Coursard etc. Thanks for sharing such a delighful site.

It is so amazing to see the names of one's ancestors in another man's diary! William and Dunning Kizziah are in my family tree. I see many names associated with my family early on...Presley, Berry, Helms...I'm just beginning to look at the index. How exciting.

Interesting site...John V. Reeb told me of this site tonight because we had seen the 1802 diary many years ago. Our Rape family is mentioned many times in the 1802 diary and I look forward to reading all of this one. Thanks.
