Grand Final vs Kotara at Walker Field, South Wallsend 31.08.03 Line-up: Tom Cannon, Johnno Lord, Nick Scully, Blake Mahaffey, Lindsay Fulton, Matt Lee, Daniel Velich, Brenton Ward, Mitch Wett, Jack Heap, Cameron Williams, Toby Campbell, Sean Potter, Ben Mason. Score 4-3 (3-0 HT), Cnrs 6-4; Mitch Wett, Matt Lee, Daniel Velich, Brenton Ward What a fabulous way to finish the season...weather was excellent for a Sunday Grand Final, South Wallsend had staged a very professional set-up to give the game the atmosphere it deserved and the boys were quietly pumped for the occasion. With previous games being 0-6, 0-2 (ten men), 3-2 and 1-2...this was the game the boys had trained for...and Stuart had them primed. >From the outset it was evident that the field lyout played into our hand, with the boys settling the ball down much quicker than their Kotara counter parts...with Jack picking up their midfield distributor and Blake and Nick cutting out their speedy striker...it allowed for the rest of the team to settle down to play football, which they did superbly well. As planned the boys worked the ball into openings on the right and left...which was a constant thorn in Kotara's defence. It took 12 minutes for Brenton to get space on the right and get the ball to the goal line and crack a solid right foot cross which the keeper had difficulty handling on the near post...the ball spilled and "on your spot" Mitch was there to clean-up and give the team the 1-0 lead. Kotara during the 1st quarter rarely looked dangerous...although they still had some scoring chances with 2 great 20m shots taken by Tom, and an excellent save from Tom which their striker latched onto to 'kick' at Tom for 4 or 5 attempts...this stirred Tom up to give him the platform to have one of his greatest games of the year. Our pressure however continued to open Kotara, with Matt unlucky not to get a penalty when brought down in the box...but not long after we won a corner, which Cameron drove brilliantly to far post for Matt to come in with a great header into the roof of the net. 2-0. The man in the stand was silenced!! Kotara were crumbling at the knees as the boys efforts were overwhelming...and they didn't expect the onslaught...it continued with Brent coming off injured and Sean Potter coming on and having 7 minute spell that was scintillating...Matt, Johnno, Blake and he combined to open them on 4 or 5 occasions with one of these resulting in the goal of the match...a throw-in, knock down, cross and flick on by Mitch which found Daniel ghosting in on the left to slam home a great volley 8m out on the far post to crack the back of the net. 3-0. The man in the stand was crawling for cover!! Our worst fear came...the referee blew for half-time, Stuart didn't want the half to stop...the boys were devastating. The defence of Nick, Blake ,Johno , Lindsay and Toby did a great job. The midfield were superb with Daniel, Matt & Jack....and Mitch, Cameron, Brent & Sean tormenting Kotara throughout the half. To our surprise the second half started slowly for Kotara, and we applied pressure quickly, winning 2 consecutive corners...with Cameron again knocking in a great ball...hitting a curler in to Brent on the near post...with his back to the goal, he pulled the ball down, turned and slammed it high into the net. 4-0. It was great to see all four goals originating from the sidelines, with crosses and excellent finishing, in the final 3rd of the field. We continued to make chances...with a number of great moves being lost on the final touch...and then we allowed the sleeping giant to awake...the legs were starting to wilt...the weight of the 4-0 lead allowed us to mentally ease off...and Kotara came back with 16 minutes to go...the first Toby misaligned his bearings to give some space to the big boy, who stroked a seemingly non-threatening ball which snuck into the far post. The second with 8 minutes to go and a lobbed cross far post found the unmarked winger who drop-lobbed the ball off his head over Tom's fingertips...and the 3rd with 4 minutes to got the Kotara player tap-danced his way around the penalty spot and 4 defenders to slide the ball under Tom...each goal coming from not closing the ball player down...the next 4 minutes left the whole season hanging...and their dangerous striker finally got his chance with a thru ball on the right...he looked to have the pace and metres in his favour when Tom launched at his feet to take a fabulous save...the game was won! .......2 minutes to go...the boys held on for the final whistle after a wild shot went wide and the ensuing goal kick brought full time. ....congratulations guys.... 2003 U/13B Champions. PS The team qualities came to the foreat the conclusion of the game when Alison, Lisa, Jenny, Karen, Bronwyn and Lorraine mustered up an impromptu celebratory bar-b-que...mainly for Stuart to re-gather his voice ...apologies to anyone that we missed as we all headed to our cars...and although Tom was nominated Man of the Match...we had a draw to identify the parents selection...it was conclusive that each person had played to their best...and all deserved acknowledgement.Karen Lee has a number of boys interested in Speed Soccer at Cardiff....it would be a gtood way to keep in shape during the off season....so please get in touch with her ASAP if interested. End of year presentation is on 21st Sept...a party will be at the Wards at the conclusion of the presentation day....further info will be out once we have details of the days activities. GRAND FINAL Valentine Eleebana 1 Edgeworth 0 FT 0:O golden goal in extra time The match report is late because we are only just recovery from a very enjoyable weekend. First off Rob and I would like thank everyone that turned up to support the guys on a cold Saturday morning at Morriset. The game wasn't our best performance of the season by far but it was exciting for the spectators. Proof of this was the volume of cheers from all concerned. It was so load that no one heard me barking instructions from the side line. A special mention has to go to NATHAN and STUART who both worked tremendously hard to shut down any attacks coming from Edgeworth's long clearances. I would also like to say that CAMERON EDWARDS played extremely well in the unfamiliar role of right back. Edgeworth had a game plan after the mauling they received the last time we met. They defended deep to try and counter the speed of our forwards. This stiffled the game a little but altimately it served us more so than them. They had one clear shot on goal from a free kick and that was all. Whilst we weren't able to pressure their goalie as much as we hoped for we did have the majority of possession and always looked the more likely to score. Overall it was a deserved result. The goal was the end result of the best move of the day. STUART won the ball again in midfield and as pere training he looked up for the pass. spotted CAMERON BURNS on the right and delivered an inch perfect pass. CAMERON then skipped passed a defender and put over a great cross. It appeared that no one was there to capitalise when the defender turned the ball into his own goal. The move move deserved a gaol for it's shear brilliance!!! So thats how it ended. I would just like to say that the all the boys deserved this win because they have demonstrated that fair play, a will to win, and team spirit is all you need to enjoy this game. The boys have had a remarkable season winning 14 from 16 games in total. I would like to say to all the parents that it has been a pleasure to coach your boys and I hope to see you all around the club next year. WELL DONE TEAM!!!!!!!!!! ps ASTON VILLA 3 LEICESTER CITY 1 What a weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Match Report - Final 23.08.03 vs Medowie W 1-0 (1-0 HT) Cnrs 3-2 Scorer Mitch 20m Although the game didn't live up to the standard of football of the previous 2 weeks...it was definitely a game of courage, with Toby being ill and unavailable, and injuries early in the game to both Blake (calf) and Nick (groin), which left the boys a few cylinders short in the engine room. This didn't prevail however, as some excellent efforts were put in, with a number of boys 'covering' positions or sacrificing their position to slot into new roles for the team. Medowie hit hard in the first 10 minutes...with an excellent strike inside the box in the 4th minute hitting the upright and a 'cracker' of a shot off the rebound striking Johnno a good one...an early let-off. We continued to 'battle' our way through the 1st half, with the only real chances being the shot from Cam on a free-kick from 23 metres over the top...and the reverse left foot lob from Jack which seemed to catch the keeper unprepared, and ultimately the match winner, being a neat flick from Mitch to Cam, who rushed an early shot which had the keeper committed, a fumble, a scramble, and follow-up from Mitch to smash the ball into the net. Some relief for the spectators! A number of positional changes due to injury led to the half lacking in fluency, and very few attempted passes or retained possession...and although this occurred the panic seemed to set in for Medowie, who couldn't capitalise on our misfortune. Nick played a great game, with his first half being superb. The second half had a little lift in it...with the boys realising that they had the upper hand via that goal, and a number of breaks were made slightly wide of the field...these including: Mitch, with a great angled shot just breezing the far post...taking a slight deflection for the corner to be awarded. Brent, a tremendous run from midfield, beating 4 players to put a cross in from the right, and another great cross from deep right after a lay-off from Blake. Blake, 2 great runs down the right to secure possession, a brilliant run out of the box to relieve pressure early in the 2nd half. Nick, unlucky with what would of been his first goal for the year after a through ball was flicked on and his shot just wide. Although we had these chances in the second half, we still had to repel the Medowie attacks, with their little number 6 really spreading the ball around and setting up their plays...but the usually dangerous forwards being subdued by Johnno, Nick and Mitch. Johnno came to the rescue late in the game when a break on the right found dangerous Jessie who slotted the ball past Tom to the open nett, only to have Johnno clean-up and save the day In defence, Johnno, Nick, Blake and Lindsay did superbly well, while Tom continues to have outstanding displays in goals with his challenges and crosses now stifling attacking plays. Although working hard, Daniel, Matt and Jack had quieter games in midfield, with very little of the game being settled in midfield...there were only 2 midfield square balls in the whole game...with the ball travelling over midfield on each occasion from defence top attack and back. Our upfront trio of Mitch, Cameron and Brent were chasing most of the time, as opposed to presenting themselves to receive and lay-off or taking on players and opening space. Which meant that all in all a scrappy , uncontrolled game of footy. The parents were certainly relieved as the final whistle blew to give us an undefeated season against some very good opponents. A week to refresh, get our composure back, re-visit the basics and assess our Grand Final competitors should see a great final year hit-out. Training Tuesday 6:30pm at Valentine rain, hail or shine, and similarly on Thursday.

Major Semi-Final at Tillingary 16.08.03 vs Kotara L 2-1 (Golden Goal) (1-1 HT) (0-2) Cnrs Goals - Mitch Wett >From all reports, another exciting game, with chances this week favouring our team. An early finish from Mitch gave us a 1-0 lead...but again Kotara struck back after an unfortunate deflection off a kick struck Blake's hand to give our opponents a penalty which they converted. With the game locked at 1-1 the game see-sawed in a tense struggle...with some good chances continuing to fall to Mitch, Brenton, Cameron and Johnno... some goal mouth scrambles, and a non-awarded penalty near the end of normal time on Cameron, created some nail-biting scenes. Tom again put in an excellent performance...putting his body on the line, while Matt and Daniel played superbly in mid-field. Nick put in a courageous performance as well. A great effort by all the boys, playing the full game virtually with 11 men due to Lindsay's illness, and a few of the boys being ill during the week. Hopefully next week we will have a full and fit squad to give the dangerous Medowie team a run for their money. Information re: next weeks game will be advised at training on Tuesday night at 6:30pm. Have a great week. Regards, Richie Williams PRIDE Coaching Network ...bringing productivity and profitability together! PO Box 3261 VALENTINE, NSW, 2280

Major Semi-Final Edgeworth 1 Valentine 3 Well the two teams put on an entertaining show for us today. It was a game worthy of the final itself and fitting testimony to the two best teams in the comp this year. The morning started with news that the flu had struck again with our influential sweeper absent for this crunch game. As a precaution we drafted Cameron Burns into the side to give us that little something extra. For the first ten minutes of the game we had to soak up some determined Edgworth attacks. Even though our defence were at sixs and sevens we scrambled well and managed to hold on. After some tactical switchs we clicked into gear and scored with perhaps our first meaningful attack of the game. Brilliant passing from HARRISON was captilised on by a great goal from an inform SCOTT NAYLOR. There were more opportunities to score before Edgeworth equalised and it looked as though we were facing a familiar scenario. 1:1 HT Another tactical swith was made at half time because we had surrended midfield before half time because of of STUART's withdrawn role of man to man marking of their most dangerous player. DUNCAN took up the task of marking their giant and CAMERON BURNS was given a free role up front. We new that HARRISON and JORDON P were going to cause havoc with their pace so we gambled with just two in the midfield and four fowards. The defence was well marshelled now by STUART and combined with some good tackling from CAMERON EDWARDS and SCOTT RUMFORD we looked comfortable after going into the lead with another quick break. CAMERON BURNS scored two goals but it was a greeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat team effort and mention has to go to all of the lads for a job well done. They deserved this win after coming so close to beating Edgeworth previously. Thanks to all the parents for getting there today cheers......Rob and Steve

VALENTINE V SOUTH CARDIFF CB COMPLEX NO.2 SATURDAY 09/08/2003. RESULT 3-0 WIN Well it has been a long season and this was our last competition game before the semi's. The boys may not have been as switched on as last week but still managed to score 3 goals and keep a clean sheet. Harrison collected a hatrick of goals today and was a real handful for the South Cardiff players. Jordan Pascoe provided some good crosses for his fellow forwards today. Special mention to Caleb O'BRIEN who battled hard all game to take the man of the match award. Good midfield games from Luke JOHNSON and Stuart KOVACS along with James PARAS who marshalled the troops in midfield in the 1st half before playing in the custodian role in the 2nd half. Viruses struck down Alex MACKAY and Cameron EDWARDS for this game but they both turned up to play determined not to let their team mates down. Scott RUMFORD was as consistent as always at fullback. Jordan MAC showed touches of his delicate ball control but could not find the net. He cleaned up as usual at the back. Scott NAYLOR was unlucky not to score on a number of occassions but has been the subject of tight marking of late by opposition teams. Duncan MANN provided us with go forward from his thunderous clearances and snuffed out the oppositions forward raids. Overall the performance was down on previous efforts but now we can concentrate on a VERY important clash with Edgeworth next week in the Major Semi-final. See everyone at training on Wednesday.

Edgeworth 2 Valentine 1 HT 0:1 Now I'm not going to say we were robbed but..........we were unlucky to loose. The guys gave there all but the bounce just didn't go our way today. The score could easily have been 2 or 3 nil at half time but instead it was only 1 nil thanks to a well taken goal from HARRISON (well done Harry). It was always going to be a battle against a worthy opponent in the second half and playing up the hill didn't help. To everyones credit they fought hard and restricted Edgeworth to such an extent that they were reduced to kicking the ball anywhere. Two quick goals in the last ten minutes won the game but we will get another chance for revenge in a fortnights time. Well done team Both Rob and I were very proud of you all. Special mention must go to JAMES for his tremendous effort in goals today. regards Steve (you know ... the quiet one sitting on the bench)

Match Report - 26/07/03 vs Thornton W 5-0 (2-0 HT) Cnrs 9-4 Scorers: Mitch Wett, Brenton Ward, Matt Lee, Blake Mahaffey, Cameron Williams A cold blustery early winter's morning set the scene for a difficult challenge on a hard bumpy pitch...and the boys found it difficult to knock the ball around and play like they did the previous week. It seems that each game a player stands out at the beginning and has a milestone game which is rewarded by something special...Blake played very well at the back, controlling the ball and setting some great diagonal balls for midfielders to link up...this was topped off by a cracker sidefoot volley in the second half that screamed into the net...the only thing on the day that we saw better than that was his 6 foot leap in the air in exuberation...Man of the match Blake....a cumulation of a couple of solid consecutive weeks performance...well done. Stewie's training on Thursday must have hit home...not only Blake's goal, but volleyed efforts from Cameron and Nick (deserved better!) went close...and the finishing from Mitch is clinical. He was unlucky not to have a second (offside) and third (Matts finish)...and it was a shame from a competitive spectacle point of view that the referee adjudged both Mitchell's and Thornton's goal 3 minutes later to be offside...a very amazing interpretation of offside, for what were both good goals, and at 2-1 would of made it much more interesting. None the less...Brenton went on to stretch our lead to 2-0...another good strike ...a good finish after an excellent play by Blake and Jack. We got caught in defence a couple of times being outnumbered on counter attacks, and lethargic in picking up...but it brought the best out of Tom...with a great foot-save when one on one, and also a good save from the free kick. Cameron's free kick shot from 35m was a 'bolt of lightning' and just shot wide of the top right corner....after viewing a couple of Beckhams freekicks...if it hit the net ...would of given him a run for his money! Every team wants an engine room with Matt and Daniel driving it...with Matt getting the 3rd with a well followed up header, after good work from Johnno, Cameron, and an unlucky shot from Mitch. Johnno had a good game captaining the side...winning numerous headers...and setting up the attack with some good passes....Jack was steady in midfield...while Nick had an very productive game with his distribution on the right...after speakingt to the boys about looking after their gear, and using it as prepration for the game, Nick wins hands down...2 weeks in a row I could shave off the shine on his boots!...and it shows in the way he goes about his game....Lindsay cleared some attacking moves to ease the pressure in defence....and is much more relaxed in how he now approaches his game. Toby had a quieter than usual game...but when getting involved certainly changed the structure of our moves. >From here on in it's the tough grind...with Medowie, Kotara then the finals series...the rest has been practice...this is the real competitive end of the season...what a fun 5 weeks it will be!! Lets put in at training and follow each of the drills and exercises that Stew puts you thru....the reward is in the doing...and giving it your best shot. Well done boys...and good luck Regards, Richie Williams PRIDE Coaching Network ...bringing productivity and profitability together! SWANSEA v VALENTINE CHAPMAN OVAL No.1. SATURDAY 26TH OF JULY, 2003. RESULT 1-2 WIN. Swansea are a very hard team to beat and especially so on their home ground. Our boys prepared well at training through the week and expected a hard and close tussle. Swansea certainly gave them that on a cold and windy morning. Valentine started full of running thanks to some excellent tackling and chasing from NATHAN who was everwhere today and the best player on the park by far. NATHAN continually put his body on the line for his team and as a result our forwards had opportunities to score. They pressured the Swansea back 4 and gained a penalty after a Swansea defender handballed in the area. Up stepped JORDAN MAC who cooly slotted the ball past the Swansea keeper and into the net. 1 nil to Valentine. Swansea came back at us in a sustained 5 minute period and blasted our goal with shots. CAMERON playing in goals for us saved brilliantly and managed to hold onto a low shot as the Swansea attackers bore down on him. Enterprising play from our midfield of LUKE, SCOTT NAYLOR, STUART and NATHAN turned the tables around and we Jordan PASCOE found himself with achance after good lead up work by our team. JORDAN rifled his shot into the Swansea upright and it rebounded to Scott NAYLOR who pounced and drilled the ball home from close range. 2-0 nil up and Swansea came back with a good goal after we slipped a little in concentration allowing the Swansea striker an open opportunity on goal. 2-1 up at half time drinks. Steve's half time talk touched on more effort in attack, keeping put in positions and passing wide to runners along with reinforcing the need to keep our concentration in order to go ahead with the job in the 2nd period of play. The 2nd half was very close and tight indeed with Valentine having the better of the field position and forcing 4 to 5 corners in row. It must be said that the boys never allowed Swansea too much time on the ball which stifled Swansea's go forward. No further goals were scored and the game finished 2-1 with our boys victorious. Well that's the wrap for this week. See you all at training in preparation for the big one against EDGEWORTH nexy Saturday. The minor premiership will be decided on the day. Regards

19/07/03 Match Report vs South Wallsend (2-0HT) W 7-0 Scorers: M.Wett 2, B.Ward 2, D.Velich 2, M.Lee1 Corners 7-1 After a 2 week holiday, everyone seemed to come back fresh and enthusiastic for the game, with some delightful field play as the boys stroked the ball around the park. Even though we dominated the first half, it took a while (12 minutes) to find the back of the net. Cameron had a superb wingers game, with every cross being nearly inch perfect, highlighted by Toby's header and Matt's greater left foot half-volley from 8 metres into the corner of the net. These opportunities continued to occur throughout the half, with numerous chances failing to go in, Cameron's header into the upright, Brendon's lightning shot being brilliantly saved by the keeper, and a number of other attempts going wide or having the deeper pull off saves. On 3 occasions the opportunity to score was lost due to players wanting to take 2 or 3 touches instead of sliding the ball away first time. Our second goal came right on the whistle of half-time, when one of Cameron's corners turned into a scramble in the goal mouth, only to find Mitch doing sit-ups on the 6 metre line, then delicately sliding the ball in. The second half commenced with the boys being comfortable with their lead for 10 minutes, and in some ways out of sorts with Mitch settling into the strikers role and Toby into sweeper, then they put their foot down to start scoring the goals...with a number of boys wanting to get in on the action. Twice Johnno was to be denied by optical illusions, spectators excited by his 2 shots just missing, Jack striking a great shot to see the keeper deflect it onto the cross bar and then catching it again...Mitch (keen to get his hattrick), Brenton, Matt and Jack all queuing for shots...and as the half unfolded Mitch slid away his second goal, Brendon hit 2 great strikes...one side foot volley off Cameron's cross and a solid volley the keeper couldn't handle, and then Daniel coming on for the last 10 minutes to put 2 great goals away and increase his rising tally. The couple of weeks in Cairns did no harm to Nick, who had a very good second half, Johnno played some excellent balls setting up play on the right extremely well, Lindsay pulled off some very good tackles and distributed well. Jack has really found his feet in the midfield, while Mitch and Toby both complimented the switch of positions. Tom had a good game, although has to maintain focus during quieter spells so as to still be 'in the zone' when called on, and Blake continues to drive through the centre with his runs. Cameron was awarded man of the match for his display down the left and high percentage crosses. All in all the boys are now moving to the serious end of the season, with finals only weeks away...continuing to knock the ball around like this, and a higher opportunity / conversion ratio will make for an interesting game against Kotara. * Training Tuesday 6:20pm (Valentine) and Thursday 4:30pm Eleebana. ** A trivia night is arranged for anyone interested, $5:00 per head at Belmont Sportsmen's Club, Friday August 1st. Valentine 3 Belmont 1 Well I'm glad to have got this one out of our system. It was always going to a an awkward match because of the combination of school holidays and poor training attendance not to mention the FRIDAY NIGHT EFFECT. How is it that U9's go so loopy on Friday evenings?? Well the stand out players in this match were the players that moved into positions to create opportunities and those players that passed the ball. There weren't too many on the pitch but mention has to go to STUART KOVACS, SCOTT NAYLOR and NATHAN MYERS. These three players were the difference between the two sides. LUKE, DUNCAN, ALEX and SCOTT RUMFORD all had very solid games in the defence. Goals were scored by SCOTT NAYLOR, JORDON MACINTYRE and JORDON PASCOE. The only other positve to come out of this game apart from the win was no more Friday night games. An apology to ROB for asking him every five seconds as to why the team are playing so poorly. So team watch out for a cranky coach next Wednesday evening. Passing and movement off the ball is very much on the agenda!!!!!!!!! Still a win is a win and that is 10 from 11 so a BIG WELL DONE LADS............... A thankyou to all the parents again Regards Steve

Match Report 5/07/03 vs Warners Bay 1-1 (0-0HT) Cnrs 7-3 Well, after an excellent display against Kotara with 10 men the week before, the boys came back to Earth with a scrappy game against Warners Bay, and were lucky not to drop all points. Although we still created more chances, and attempted 5 shots from the edge or outside the box...our 'crispness' in finishing requires some work. Nonetheless...Daniel's goal of a lifetime with a 'cracking' volley from 20 metres into the top right hand corner 8 minutes from full-time and secured the draw. The game was poised with some end to end activity with final passes for both teams lacking direction and breaking play down. The writing was on the wall that it wasn't going to be our day, with: Warners Bay getting behind our defence and sliding the ball past Tom in the 11th minute...Mitch was Johnny on the spot to pull the ball off the line, and in the attempted clearance had the ball come off another Warners Bay attacker to edge past the post. Tom pulling off a great take high above his head as a Warners Bay cross come shot from wide on the box in the 18th minute. Toby being pulled down in the box in the 48th minute...only to have the penalty not awarded...an appeal may have helped the referee give what was a blatant foul. Brenton working into 4 good positions to score...with the final shot lacking vigour or catching an outstretched foot as in the case of the one on one with the keeper. Cameron's chance from the left skewing the ball wide from 8 metres. 2 goal mouth scrambles, one 1st half after a great corner from Cameron (I'm sure there was a defender handball on the line here), and another in the second half. Some of the games highlights were: Brenton's positive running and continuing to look for the ball, presenting himself with some great opportunities...awarded Man of the Match for this. Blake's continued improved showing, with some good runs, and a solid performance at stopper. Jack's balls from midfield...he laid on a couple of excellent balls both out wide to Brent, and also through the middle. Cameron's crosses (when he kept his feet) and a couple of deft touches...the one laid on for Brent (which he unfortunately overrun was a beaut) in the first half. Daniel played his ultra-consistent self...his goal as mentioned a ripper!! Johnno continues to strike some good crosses from deep defence. Mitch's couple of critical tackles / intercepts...and he is now looking outside for players square and diagonally to set up our moves forward. Lindsay's efforts up front in the first 15 minutes were creative. Matt got himself in 3-4 shooting positions from the edge of the box...however the 2 calls he made to his team-mates to pick their game up in the second half were great to hear...we need more players talking on the field. Tom displayed some excellent drop-kicks out of the box into Warners Bay half. Toby's boot lace header...I didn't know he could bend that far down!! The ref showed during the game that we are all human, who could forget our handball - throw-in..., this, along with the penalty call demonstrated that we all make mistakes.... This game will play a big hand in our semi-final showing as we could learn a lot from it....there were stil lots of smiles after the game The most pleasing aspect of the weekend was that no parents were red or yellow carded at the Club Function at the 16 Footers on Saturday night. Please enjoy your school holiday break...there will be no training during this period...with our next game being on Saturday 19/07/03 at Valentine against South Wallsend at 2:45pm...be there at 2:15pm Regards, Richie Williams PRIDE Coaching Network ...bringing productivity and profitability together! Saturday 5th July VALENTINE V TORONTO AWABA Finnan Oval-Blackalls Park. RESULT 0-1 WIN. This game was to be a real test for us as Toronto are very hard to break down in defence. The boys started slowly but warmed to the task by creating a number of scoring opportunities. If it wasn't for some fantastic saves by the Toronto goalkeeper we could have been 4 nil up at the break. Our midfield worked hard as usual and managed to win more of the ball than they lost resulting in the team dominating posession. Our centre backs DUNCAN & JORDAN MAC man marked the big Toronto forward out of the game and limited his chances with the ball. DUNCAN especially stayed with his man throughout and really set up our win with some tight defending. Nil all at the break and Steve was concerned with our finsihing in front of goal. This was the crux of the half time talk along with improving our passing game. Some of the boys tended to turn back into traffic and not play the easy ball to a better positioned team mate. The 2nd half saw us play a more expansive game as we tried to use the full field to try and stretch the Toronto defence and open up some holes. The determined running and ball winning ability of our midfield of STUART, NATHAN, LUKE, JAMES and CAMERON remains of feature of our team displays. The forwards of HARRISON, SCOTT NAYLOR, & JORDAN PASCOE continue to improve. All three are equal in goalscoring potential resulting in our opponents finding it difficult to choose who to mark out of the game. The defence again kept a clean sheet ( That's 6 in a row now ) with CALEB showing the bulldog in his game and Scott RUMFORD displaying his ever improving dribbling skills and positional play. We are lucky to have 2 very good goalkeepers in CAMERON & NATHAN who I know are appreciated by their teammates, coach and manager. Our goal today was scored by the poacher Jordan PASCOE who finished off a great cross from Jordan MAC after good lead up work down the right flank. I can tell you it was a relief to see that ball go into the net. Scott NAYLOR nearly added to the teams total with what seemed like a goal after his low shot was partially saved by the Toronto keeper and then rolled over the goal line. Scott swears it went over the line but the referee disagreed. All in all a good team effort from a great bunch of boys who are miles ahead in attitude and application then they were at the start of the season. Thanks again to all the parents for their support.

Match Report vs Kotara South 28/06/03 L - 2-0 (HT 1-0) What a FANTASTIC performance by the team...it is games like this when points mean nothing...the outcome to be only judged by the effort put in by the team. After a 6-0 thumping 10 days before...and then limited to only 10 men...the courage and team spirit was brilliant!! With a tentative start...mainly brought about by over-defending their position...and going down 1-0 after 10 minutes...the boys realised that there was only one way to go...and that was to take it to them. Brenton started to push forward in the centre and challenge each ball...Cameron pushed in from midfield to up front and lay off balls to supporting midfielders...Jack shadowed No.12 and kept him at bay, while Daniel and Matt swept the midfield, challenging plays...looking for square and diagonal balls to push forward with, Johnno and Blake not only defended well...but pushed wide on occasions to either make runs or lay-balls up front, for our forwards to latch onto, Mitch had his best game to date, and I want some of whatever Toby's been on for the last 4 weeks...winning a lot of balls in the centr and displaying a great deal of vigour...Tom had a solid game, and once he angled his kicks we really got an upper hand by winning balls out in wider midfield positions. It was unfortunate after such a good save from Tom the ensuring corner allowed Kotara to score and ease the heat in the final 3 minutes. We should be charging for entry at the next game...it will be a cracker!! All boys were nominated as "Men of the Match" for their outstanding performance. Highlights of the game: Toby's performance last 8 minutes up front Matt's attempted shot 1st half , Brentons 2nd half shot to the keeper after a brilliant ball from Jack Toby and Brenton's air swings...I've never seen better!!...both from over enthusiasm. Cameron's corner that brought about the scramble for 45 seconds in the second half that nearly brought off the equaliser Blake's (on a coupla occassions) and Jack's scintillating 2nd half run down the right Toms save around the post for a corner in the last 4 minutes Mitch's tackles in defence Matt and Daniel's defensive midfield work *Training on Tuesday / Thursday as normal *Game next Saturday at home at 2:45pm, followed by the club night out. Maps of the bus circuit, along with times to pick-up and tickets will be available Sat at the game. Valentine 4 Charlestown 0 Nathan...1 Harrison.1 Scott N..2 HT 2:0 This was in truth a poorest performance of the season so far but it was a good three points. once the first goal went in the result was never really in doubt. Once again the defence was solid in keeping another clean sheet (Oh Rob is a happy man). I must stress, as a defender myself for the over 35's, that the defence is as important as playing upfront. You can't win games if you are letting goals in at the other end. Whilst some parents may dismay at the role that their boys are playing in the defence let me assure all parents that I value each and every moment that your boys are giving to this exciting season. And whilst it may seem a waste to you it's very important that these positions are throughly understood against the 'lesser' teams because it will hold us in good stead against the stronger teams. Back to the game. We passed the ball quite well today but our first touch let us down when it really mattered. Strong games from NATHAN,STUART, and DREW in midfield was backed up by strong solid defending from DUNCAN,JORDON MAC, ALEXANDER, and CALEB. SCOTT N has hit the goal trail in a big way and HARRISSON and JORDON P were their lively selves up front causing confusion with their speed and penetration (got that bit from www.premierleague.com) If we carry on like this we may rate a mention in the clubs newsletter. Expect a tougher game next week at Toronto. A very big thankyou to all the parents that help out with canteen duty and a big, big thankyou to all you parents that covered for those that didn't show. Thanks for the support and well done lads... Regards Steve & Rob
