I hope you can help me. I inherited many years ago a Mars Detective camera circa 1893, from my grandfather. It is in pretty good condition but the lens is missing, everything else is there. I do not know where to get it valued or where to sell it. My grandfather had a cinamatic shop in London 1930-1944 and had this camera on display in the shop. What do I do with it allow it to contiue collecting dust? Please. Ian Jenkins

Hi Ake; it is a bit late, but all the best for the new year. Are you still addicted to collecting cameras? I just purchased a one off; it was built by Professor Clarence Rainwater, who started the American swap meets for cameras in the 60's. It has a very nice Schneider 47mm f8 lens on a 6x9 camera. All the best Ray Paige - Darwin Australia.

Hello. I had never seen another Underwood camera until today when I ran across your website. I have one, but its not exactly like yours, but very close. Mine has a name, it reads "The Field". It has a wooden tripod (in 3 seperate pieces) that attach to the underside. It still has its original lens cap. Are there any books on E & T Underwood cameras? Do you know if there are others with "The Field" written on them? I'd appreciate any background you might have. Thank you. Kathleen Weston, Florida

Hi, Enjoyed your site very much and was hoping you might provide some information on an old 8x10 Gorlitzer German camera I own at the moment. I also have 2 lenses and 2 reducing backs as well as wooden tripod. I cant seem to find any information on it. Would you also know approximate value. I have provided a few images for you to evaluate. Condition is very good to excellent. With thanks Mike Gluss

I have found three items from a Poco Camera. They look like square wooden boxes with sliding front and back panels. I think they hold the 'film' plates for the camera. "Rochester Optical Co, Rochester NY" is stamped on the wood frame & "The Poco Camera, Pat. May 1891 Oct 14 1902" on the sliding panels. What would be the value of these Id like to know if these have any value. Thanks

great site - enjoyed all of the cameras. I was actually lloking for a close-up of the ROC New Model. I inherited this camera and a number of others from my grandfather. The camera is in beautiful condition, including the original case and plate holders, but the lens is not attached to the lens board. Are the mounting screws brass to match the lens, or nickel to match the balance of the metal?

I was pleased to see your Tailboard Teak Camera to be for sale at $ 425. I've got an identical camera, very complete with an Emil Busch A-G Rathenow, Weitwinkel Aplanat Ser.C.F:15, No 2 F=150mm. The wooden box is almost identical, despite some iron elements. Therefore, I'ld like to know how the manufacturing of a camera like this was handled? Was it mass production? How can you explain the minimal differences? Did Busch manufacture the complete camera? Is the period really around 1920 or could it be pre 1900? Thanks in advance for your help. If it's necessary I'll send you a picture of the camera! Kind regards, Gerrit Bon.

A friend of mine has recently come across a book in his attic and would like to know how to find out if it has any value. The book is called, "Photography Indoors and Out, A book for ameteurs." Written by Alexander Black, published in 1893. He said that the book was in good condition. If you can suggest a link or give me an idea of whether or not the book has any value, I would appreciate it. Thank you for your time. Ann
