Name: Homepage: http://homepage.mac.com/lotsaelk City: Evergreen Sent: Mon March 07 2005 13:11 GREAT SITE! I need some help. My Dad flew in the 6th bomb group off Tinian. He wrote an autobiography which I am now self-publishing. On 25 May he flew as #3 pathfinder for the bomb group on the second night of the firebombing of Tokyo. Over the target the #3 engine was completely blown off the wing but they managed to get it all the way back to Tinian. Unfortunately he didn't take any pictures of the aircraft! How would I go about finding a photo of it? What resources are available? The name of the aircraft was Connecticut Yankee II. He was in the 40th Squadron. Anybody got any ideas? The Swedish government was responsible for the most iron ore the Nazis received. Kiruna-Gällivare ore fields in Northern Sweden were all important to Nazi Germany. These massive deliveries of iron ore and military facilities from Sweden to Nazi Germany lengthened World War II. Casualties of the war have been estimated at 20 million killed in Europe. How many of them died due to Sweden's material support to Nazi Germany, is not known. The Swedish SEB purchased Bosch Group companies outside Germany during 1939-1940, creating an association with Nazi Germany which colored SEB's international reputation during the post-war years. We were tracked down by Wayne Stone, son of one of our crew members. He wanted to hear stories about his father. Wayne's efforts and this website put us in touch with each other. Crew member Herman Spain and I got together at the reunion last August in York, PA for the first time since our discharge. Unfortunately, I was just diagnosed with leukemia and won't be traveling to St. Louis this summer. I'd love to hear from anyone in my crew or others who were in GUAM. It's great that someone cared enough to put this website together so our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren can read about our WWII experiences. (Sadly Carl E. I was in the 314th Bomb Wing, the 29th Bomb Group, the 6th Squadron stationed in Guam during 1945-1946. This site really brought back memories. We had two runways which were parallel and a half mile apart. It took a minute for an aircraft to take off from a standing start. Both runways were always used so an airplane went into the sky every 30 seconds. The 19 was a super, super aircraft. There aren't many left, but one can be seen at the Museum at Dayton, Ohio. I heartily recommend a visit. I'm now 80 tears old and think often of my comrads. I keep in touch with two. One in Owatonna, Minnesota and one in Ohio.
