As a teenager I worked for a piano tuner in Farningham, along the road from Eynesford. We often spoke of P.W.. In the late sixties there were very large trees on one side of the road all the way from Eynesford to Farningham;and if,starting near P.W's cottage, you took the first letter of each tree it said- "She wrought her country lasting good" [refering to Queen Victoia] They may be there still.

I was assigned Peter Warlock as a topic for a graduate paper and I am truly enjoying learning about him and his music. This site has been a tremendous help!!!

I discovered Warlock via the movie--then bought the centenary album. I'm still searching for the gorgeous music from the movie but don't know what I'm looking for. I especially want to know the name of the work Lily (in the movie) performs, first with Phillip/Peter accompanying her on piano, then later with a choir. Can you tell me what it is???

With a long-time deep interest in British music and composers, I was aware of Peter Warlock, but in no detail. But, from the E.J. Moeran website, I read some of the tales of the wild, carousing life-style of Moeran, Warlock, et. al., and that led to reading the Barry Smith biography. I am eager to become even better acquainted with this fascinating figure, and congratulate the founders/keepers of this website for their work.

I heard a wonderfull "unknown(to me)string/orchestral work" while driving in my car. Title 'Bethlehem down' Composer Peter Warlock, never heard of before, did'nt have that real special interest to classical music/ composer. I did not have a peace of paper for a note, so after doing all kinds of things, I still remember the sounds off strings/orchestra, name and title. Usualy forgotten title's / name's, so it must be something special for me.

I have always felt a deep admiration for the composer Peter Warlock. This page enlarges my knowledge about this extraordinary man. I am the musical leader of a Vocal Ensemble, named Pavane. W'are planning to sing a number of Christmas Songs by Mr. Warlock in December 2004. It's a pity that people outside the UK and the USA can't be a member of the Society.

Of ALL the music I've known my 58 years, I would have EVERYONE hear the 5th movement of the Capriol Suite, pieds en l'air which takes my breath away. When I get the disk out I have to replay those 2 minutes a dozen times. Ineffable stuff. Wondrous.

I first heard the music of Peter Warlock with the Capriol Suite,as many others no doubt have. Recently I began my re-discovery by the very excellent Naxos recordings of English songs.THE CURLEW is breathtaking and evocative. I am a poet and sort of musician myself,so this immediately captivated me. I believe an excellent short film could be made of this work , bringing in landscape imagery etc etc.

Did you know that the Capriol Suite was used by the BBC to open up transmissions of Radio 3 for many years, in the days before 24 hour broadcasting. The perfect piece to wake up to!

In college many years ago I listened to an album entitled "MERRY GO DOWN" which contained Warlock's arrangement of "AS THY SHADOW ITSELF APPLYETH" by Thomas Whythorne. It was a wonderful piece of music that I haven't heard since. The album was on the Pearl label, but so far it is not among the titles reissued by Pavilion Records. It would be a welcome addition to the music of Warlock currently available.

This site is a great resource and memorial to a true genius, Peter Warlock. His music is unique, exquisite and over the years has become an important part of my life. But as Elizabeth Posten said PW was an amazingly complete individual: I've come to feel a great affinity to the man and the strange thing is that his charismatic presence and personality are still felt so vividly today. Warlock is with us!
