Name: Homepage: http://www.edrobinson.com City: Toronto Sent: 15/08 01:12 Visited in 1979. My mother and my grandparents came to Canada around 1922/24 I believe. William and Elizabeth Gibson were their names and my mother was Nellie Gibson and her brother was Ralph. I understand my great grandfather ran a general store in Biddulph. I had a wonderful visit with my great Aunt "Alice" in 1979 at a retirement home in the town. Congratulations on a very informative and well organized web page. .... Name: City: Lewisham Sent: 01/08 22:01 As a former resident of Biddulph on a recent visit I was amazed at how good the Town was looking in preperation for the annual visit by Britain in bloom judges. The efforts by Hilda Sheldon and her small group of volunteers are a shining example of what can be achieved by those who do not just talk about the environment but actually go out and do something to improve the appearance of the town. What should always be remembered is that Biddulph's entry has the support of ordinary people whether through a financial donation or putting work such as early morning litter picks in various locations, planting of trees and tending flower beds such as the display at Fold Lane/ Congleton road. Larger towns such as Newcastle under Lyme and Congleton spend a lot of their Borough council taxpayers money on flower beds throughout their Town centres and also take great civic pride in employing professional gardeners in their parks departments. Unfortunately the Staffordshire Moorlands District council does not have a parks department and spends only a minimal sum of taxpayers money in looking after green open space. So take a bow Hilda and her unsung heroes and all the hard work they do because they care passionately about Biddulph. If there is any justice for community support and effort then Biddulph should strike Gold when the Britain in bloom results are announced at the end of August. Also well done Biddulph town councillors for your continued support. Name: Spleurker City: Biddle Sent: 25/07 12:53 Biddulph-by-the-Sea was great. A huge slap on the back to all the organisers, well done and thankyou Name: Jackie City: Biddulph Sent: 24/07 21:51 I thought that Saturday's events were superb- a great day for Biddulph. They had obviously taken lots of organisation- well done Frank Harris! Name: City: Lewisham Sent: 22/07 20:17 It is good to see that once again Biddulph will be transformed into BIDDULPH-BY-THE-SEA this Saturday 23rd July and Sunday 24th in addition to the very popular Continental market taking place in the High street which is well worth a visit to sample the stallholders tempting display of chocolates which some of your more ample proportoned readers would die for! Apparently Station Road is being transformed into a beach resort with twenty tons of sand being used to create a beach! There will also be donkeys, a coconut shy and a Punch and Judy show by professional pupeteer Mark Brammer.Visitors will also get to sit back and relax in deck chairs ,taking in music provided by Audley Brass Band throughout the afternoon. Frank Harris ,event organiser, said: "It is going to be a fantastic day. A lot of children have never had the opportunity to go to the beach so we are offering the next best thing by bringing it to them. We have got everything but the sea. I have seen the Punch and Judy show before and Mark is absolutely hilarious. BIDDULPH-BY-THE-SEA AND THE CONTINENTAL MARKET IS OPEN FROM 8.30am until about 5.30am each day. Visitors will be able to watch bakers make dough from scratch and sample a choice of fresh produce ranging from chesses and meat to pastries and bread. The event is being staged as part of the Biddulph Festival . Other festival events include a night of Irish music , on 29th July with bands Shannon and Murphy's Marbles. Why not pay Biddulph a visit and check whats happening? You will not be disappointed! Name: sue Sent: 17/07 16:47 Nige, hope you having great time where ever you are .
