We are both 56. Keith suffered a stroke in June of 2003 resulting in total loss of speech other than a few words. He is aphasic with paralysis of right extremities. Our greatest battle has been Keiths depression and and constant nervousness. His inability to communicate has been horrendous. He has been on many anti-depressants and various nerve medicines but most have caused such drowsiness it is dificult for him concentrate or do much of anything. I am hoping others who may be in our situation might offer guidance. It affected his right side and speech. He is walking with a cane now and can some steps without. His speech is returning but very slowly. He lost the use of his right arm but the therapists are still working with him. He is now able to squeeze your hand but that is about it. I was told that what you didn't regain in 6 months you weren't going to ever have again. WE are sort of proving that wrong because he arm is just starting to work. Eny one who has this I would like to hear their stories. Name: : searching under stroke survivors Sent: 01/28 2005 11:18 AM wonderful site. i just had my stroke 5 1/2 mo. ago in Aug of 2004. I was only 32, I was 2 weeks from my 33rd b'day. I also had been living in my new apt. for 2 1/2 weeks. I am a mother of 3 boys. My middle son started 1st grade and had his 1st award assembly and i missed them because i was in rehab. Thank God I'm Alive. I was in 2 diff. hosp.,life flighted to the 2nd one and 6 weeks at a rehab ctr. I had CVA, i had 3 blood clots, 2 on rt., 1 was centrally located in my brain stem. I had 2 TIA's, but my husband and i thought it was heat strokes because it was really hot out. Iwas temp paralyzed on my left, because of the centrally located clot it affected the fine motor skills on my rt. I'm not paralyzed on the left anymore, but the rt. side fine motor skills are not back. I will never take life for granted anymore. Name: City: Pensacola, Florida : I did a search on google. I had my stroke on September 14, 1994. I had Polio as a child and the Stroke was on same side. My Faith in God is what is continuing to heal me. The years have been hard learning to do things in a totally different way, but I continue to astonish myself. I still have weakness on my left side, but that I know is going to get better one day. Through these past ten years God has sent me 3 grandchildren and I have raised two of them and I thank God for them, because they are what is keeping me alive. Hope to meet many of you who are going through the same.
